Iranin va. asiainhoitaja Hossein Ali Zadeh kutsuttiin 21. tammikuuta ulkoministeriöön Iranin ihmisoikeustilanteen johdosta. Iranin edustaja Helsingissä on myös aiemmin saanut vastaavanlaisen kutsun. Valtiosihteeri Pertti Torstilan mukaan erityistä huolta ovat viime viikkoina herättäneet mielenosoitusten väkivaltainen tukahduttaminen, ihmisoikeusaktivistien lisääntynyt häirintä sekä Bahá’í-vähemmistön kohtelu.

Suomi tuomitsee väkivallan käytön sanan- ja kokoontumisvapauttaan käyttäneitä mielenosoittajia vastaan. Kaikille mielenosoitusten yhteydessä pidätetyille tulee taata oikeudenmukainen oikeudenkäynti.

Valtiosihteeri Torstila korosti uskonnon- ja mielipiteenvapauden suurta merkitystä ja esitti huolensa Bahá’í-vähemmistöön kuuluvien henkilöiden pidätyksistä. Suomen hallitus on syvästi huolestunut iranilaisiin ihmisoikeusaktivisteihin ja journalisteihin kohdistuneesta häirinnästä. Iranin odotetaan täysimääräisesti noudattavan kansainvälisiä ihmisoikeussopimuksia, joihin se on sitoutunut.
